This is a male black field cricket (Gryllus bimaculatus) and he and his friends are the reason why I’ve been a little quiet recently! I’ve been studying the effect of different social environments (who else is in the area) on the mating behavior in this species for my third year project, and its taking up an awful lot of time! However hopefully soon I will have some time to post up some of the other photos I’ve been taking recently including shots from the red deer rut at Chatsworth house, some fish from The Deep, and some cute baby seals from Donna Nook!
But until then, I hope you enjoy this shot and aren’t too freaked out by it! Incidentally, it happens to be one of the first photographs I have taken with my brand new camera, the Nikon D7100! I’m very excited to use it more!
